The Official State Arboretum features a 14,000 forest, a landscaped arboretum with 2,000 plants identified in a natural setting. Hiking trails, fishing lake, nature center and wildlife sanctuary. The Kentucky Derby, the 1st Sat in May, kicks off the 3-month Spring race meet. (Fall meet each Nov.) Experience the thrill of the Derby every day at the Museum through the one-of-a-kind multi image show. Distinctive hand-blown art glass items are made while you watch. Each piece is carefully crafted from raw materials and fired at over 2,000 F. Items are featured in fine gift shops around the world. The film presentation about the Beam Family and the early history of bourbon production is a great way to learn about a fascinating Kentucky tradition. A self-guided tour through the distilling process, an 1800's cooperage display, and a walk around the grounds gives one the feeling of going back in time over 200 years.
